Mama Superior

We’ve completed filming our short documentary about the Supermamas of Wallacedene - a powerful collective of community mothers who are tangibly changing the pattern of township development.

Co-directed with Jaime Ackroyd and researched by Nadine Coetzee the short documentary focuses on the example of Noronte Noto and other school principles.Through their work in extending education beyond the school gates they are reimagining public space and redefining ownership.

The film chronicles this alternative, community-lead method of development with the goal of enabling the mothers to advocated for a greater say in directing their futures. By celebrating their vibrancy and heritage we hope to offer a counterpoint to historical portrayals of impoverishment and disempowerment and thus challenge western perceptions of Africa reliance.
