JA Projects designs 'Genetic Automota' at Wellcome Collection
‘Genetic Automata’ exhibition designed by JA Projects for Wellcome Collection is an ongoing body of video works by artists Larry Achiampong and David Blandy, exploring race and identity in an age of avatars, videogames and DNA ancestry. The series investigates where deeply ingrained ideas about race come from and the role that science has played in shaping these perceptions. The exhibition premiers ‘_GOD_MODE_’, the newest film in the series, commissioned by Wellcome Collection, Black Cultural Archives and Wellcome Connecting Science.
Larry Achiampong lives and works in London and Essex, and David Blandy lives and works in London and Brighton. Their collaborative practice is brought together by friendship, and their shared interest in popular culture and the postcolonial condition. ‘Genetic Automata’ is the third series they have developed together since 2018; their presentation at Wellcome Collection is their first museum exhibition as a duo.
‘Genetic Automata’ runs from 8 Jun 2023-11 Feb 2024
