We’re absolutely thrilled to announce that the brand-new canopies at Queen’s Market are now open!
These two striking timber-framed structures have replaced the existing canopies at the front of the market, all while preserving the iconic archway that remains a beloved landmark on Green Street.
Inspired by the market’s vibrant character and rich array of goods, the new concertina-style design draws from the flowing fabrics and intricate jewellery often traded here. Embossed finishes will echo the unique textures found throughout the site, creating a visual connection between design and tradition. Thoughtfully selected materials will celebrate the market’s heritage while ensuring the canopies remain innovative, durable, and easy to maintain.
Leveraging our experience across architecture, art, and performance, we’ve collaborated closely with local communities and businesses to co-design several key upgrades. This included a refreshed public realm in Queen’s Square, a brand-new market office and public toilet, as well as improved lighting and an enhanced ceiling structure.
Queen’s Square on Green Street officially reopened on 30th September 2023, ushering in a renewed sense of energy and belonging. The revitalised space has given a sense of vibrancy to the square, creating a space for the community to socialise, for traders to pitch their stalls and people to dwell.
