JA Projects’ Manor Grove housing scheme submitted for planning

The planning application for the Tustin Estate Regeneration project has been submitted to Southwark Council for approval.

Following a Southwark Council competition, JA Projects is part of the dRMM led- team that has been working with local residents to redesign the Tustin Estate near Old Kent Road in Southwark. JA Projects’ housing proposal to deliver new innovative in-fill housing across two small sites in the Manor Grove area of the estate will provide 14 new homes for existing residents of Tustin Estate as part of Phase 1 of the development.

The design propositions have been shaped through engagement with local residents and the study of the architectural language of Manor Grove. As a result, rather than being expressed as terrace houses, the proposed buildings are articulated as blocks, in the same way as the existing Manor Grove homes. Much care and consideration have been spent understanding what makes the existing character and identity of the Manor Grove special and the proposal explores how this character can be celebrated and reflected in a contemporary, lean and beautiful way.

Furthermore, a sustainability agenda has been set out early on in the design process to ensure the buildings are truly sustainable and meet the policy targets and those set out by the project brief. The scheme has been designed to ensure that the proposal as a whole is sustainable in its fabric, conception, and social and physical realisation.

We look forward to sharing further updates about the project soon!
